I don’t know how many times I’ve heard a car alarm and said, “Well, the police should be here any minute. Yeah, right!”

I heard one going off for so long I called the cops and they made the owner turn it off.

It was like 2AM.

Sometimes I just sing along to the alarm.

I'm an old guy who started driving when very few cars actually had stock alarms. Alarms like VIPER were just the toys of rich people, so there was a general attitude of "who gives a sh*t?" about them. And stock alarms have almost always been horn-based, which 99.9% of the time is a false alarm due to user error. Stupidest, yet most common feature on almost every car.

The only thing a car alarm has ever been good for is lowering the cost of your insurance.

I feel like the panic button is the worse, I still haven't have a use for it other than annoyance.

Guess I'll have to get one then...and never use it.

My friend’s brother bought one with a pager that would alert him when the alarm went off. Every chance we got, we would bump the car to set off the alarm and watch him come running.

Oh, man. I was sitting outside at lunch today, and a car alarm kept going off over and over again in the parking lot next door. Never once did I - or anyone else in the area, I imagine - consider going to see if a car was actually being stolen.

Finding your car in a crowded lot.

This was a nightly occurance at my dorm one year. Not sure if it was some shit head hitting the panic button or a stupid car issue but I about ran out of creative insults for the car and its owner.

Oh, you mean the "button only used by my other keys when they wedge against my fob just right in my pocket and freak everyone out"? I hate that button.

Nah, that’s not the panic button, that’s the “car locator” button for those times you're in an ocean of parking lot and you can't remember which aisle you parked in. :)

My brother’s car is the worst. I’m in the car, he left to take pics of something else. I decide I want to get out. There’s no unlock switch to unlock the entire car on the front passenger side, so I do it manually. And it sets off the car alarm. I’ve done that by accident probably 3-4 times.

Funny story, I had to replace the battery in the fob, but it still wouldn’t work, the cage that holds the battery broke. I spent a week using the actual key to get in and out of my car. One Sunday, while waiting a foot away from the car for my family to leave the house, the car starts whistling and honking loudly. I stood confused, trying to figure out what just happened because I knew my fob didn't work. So, I picked up the fob, pressed the panic button, the car shuts up. I press the lock button twice, the car honks and locks itself. The fob decided to start working. I did nothing to it.

Try doing it on purpose, it's more fun that way.

I did that, they told me they were looking for the owner. I felt sad everytime a police car drove by it and didn’t stop and empty their shotgun into the car to make it stop. They did not find the owner. I did not sleep well.

Worst car alarm experience: My battery died, but apparently still had enough power to run the car alarm. However it wouldn’t run the central locking and manually unlocking the car wouldn’t shut it off. Had to listen to the damn thing until I could get a jump.

It was obviously challenging you. You need to challenge it back, start growling and yelling at it, that'll show it who's boss. :)

In the of February 2007 I had a 93 ES300 (manual, woo!) that had an alarm. This will be important later. It also had a switch in the drivers door latch that would turn off the headlights if you left them on. So being a lazy college jerk coupled with the sun never coming out in central PA in the winter I just left the lights on all the time. One morning that it was about 20 degrees out the switch froze shut and didn’t kill the lights. Of course I didn’t realize this and went about my day. I got out of class around 8:30 PM and rode the bus back to the stadium parking lot to go drive 5 miles back to my apartment only to find that the battery was totally dead. I was able to call a friend to come give me a jump. After waiting around in the 15 degree weather for half an hour or so he arrived. We popped the hood and hooked up the cables, but it was so dead that nothing happened right away. We got out of our cars to BS for a few minutes while the Lexus battery charged up. I left the driver’s door open so I could hop back in when I heard the door chime. Remember the alarm? Well as soon as the battery had enough juice to wake the computer the alarm went off, locking all the doors and blaring the horn. At this point a big gust of wind came and blew the door shut. So now my keys were locked in the beeping car. Fortunately, disconnecting the jumpers resulted in the horn stopping pretty quickly. We couldn’t get my spare key, though because it was at my apartment. Just as we were contemplating what to do next, we were able to flag down a tow truck that had just jumped a Jeep ZJ that had succumbed to either the either the cold or typical 90s Chrysler build quality. He got in with a slim Jim and this time I was sitting in the drivers seat ready for the alarm. After that I turned off my headlights when I turned off my car and never heard from the alarm again.

TL;DR my stupid old Lexus’s alarm locked me out of my car in the middle of winter once. I hate alarms.
